Daily Prayer

DEAR GOD:
Thank you for all that you’ve given me
All that you’ve shown me
You take my hand and lead me through life’s path
Let me make mistakes and recover from them to newer heights
I put my faith and trust in you
And in asking you for more, I recognize your greatness and my dependence on you
And hope to find clarity in what I want, what you want of me, and what is truly important.
Let me realize how lucky I am to be born into this great age of plenty and of awareness
That I am fortunate to start
That much of what I have is pure luck.
Let me remember that what I think I own- I am only a temporary guardian of
That I came here with nothing and will leave with nothing
So let me enjoy the sweetness of knowing that loss is as temporary as possession
And that as the river of material things runs through my life
What actually remains is love, kindness and truth
Let me be lucky to be surrounded by good people-
Take my hand and lead me out of the way of those who want to hurt me or distract me
Make nothing of their schemes, but let my tongue not slander them
Let my heart open to the good souls that you place on my way
And let us together celebrate you and your earth
Let me have worthy goals and hobbies
And let my worthiest aspirations come true as I start my day.
My Little Baby...
Robert Coombs PaintingYour Children are not Your Children
They are the sons and daughters of life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you. For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

Why Antiques...?
A paradox often conveys a great truth. "Why antiques?" I'm often asked. These objects of beauty over a 100 years of age remind us of the fragility of life. Within a second, one can easily shatter months of work performed by a great artist that has survived generations. The artist through devine inspiration and hard labor co-creates a brilliant gem that moves many for years. Through her art, the artist gains immortality. Through the collection of that art, the collector tries to gain immortality, knowing that he can pass on that droplet of light to future generations, much like a parent does a child. Through the branches of our fingers runs the wind of life. The paradox of life's fragility and the quest for immortality is mirrored in one's hunt for beautiful treasured pieces.
